Our debut feature film

Our debut feature film

2017-01-11

JRCT Year 2 project

Having completed its film festival run, our debut feature film 'Freesia' has now secured UK distribution for a cinematic release. More details can be found on 'Arakan Tomorrow'.

Our plan was to produce 3 short films that look at contemporary issues that feed into Islamophobia. However the idea gained momentum to include a wider objective - to produce a multi-narrative feature film. This was achieved by weaving the stories together through key scenes and thereby giving us a 91-minute movie to release to film festivals and, God willing, a much wider audience beyond. We have gained 14 official selections and various accolades from the following festivals:

- Los Angeles CineFest

- Miami Independent

- Focus International Film Fest

- Equality International Film Fest

- London International Film Festival of World Cinema

- Accolade Global Film Comp

- London ModCon Film Festival

- Riverside International Film Festival

- Swedish International Film Festival

- South Texas International Film Festival

- Chandler International Film Festival

- Canadian Diversity Film Festival

- Auckland International Film Festival

- Yosemite Film Festival

- Winner of the 'Award of Merit' from the Accolade Global Film Comp

- Winner of the ‘Best New Filmmaker’ from the Canadian Diversity Film Festival

- Winner of the ‘Best First Time Filmmaker’ from the Auckland International Film Festival

- Finalist in the Focus Int. Film Fest for 'Best Editing, Best Score and Best Trailer' (trailer only)

- 3 nominations in the London Int. Film Fest for 'Best Original Screenplay, Best Score and Best Director' categories.

- 2 nominations in the London ModCon Film Festival for ‘Best Screenplay’ and ‘Best Trailer’.

Over 13 days throughout June 2014 our cast of 34 actors and 15 crew members helped make Arakan's first venture in film a reality. We are extremely thankful to them and we hope to work with them again soon.
