Theatre Play
In December 2009 we produced Hijaab, our first traditional theatre production that explored the true meaning of the headscarf. Much debate has been had on this subject and there seems to be an opinion from every point-of-view – accept the object itself. So, the play asked: “What would the Hijaab say if it could talk?”
The play premiered at the Bradford Playhouse Studio and ran for 1 week, with medium-term plans to tour regionally and nationally.
It was very well received and we were later approached to re-stage a performance as part of a leadership event in February 2010, supported by Bradford Council and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
Quotes from audience:
Absolutely fantastic. Tackled the themes of Hijaab, a controversial subject, very well. An equilibrium was struck between why the Hijaab attracts so much attention.
Had not expected the arguments for the Hijaab (for and against) to be presented in this way - surprising and therefore exciting.
Play was directed very well.
Very good characters, offered a number of opinions, well researched, good use of humour.
