Light Night Event, Leeds
Arakan teamed up with Point Arrow Theatre as part of 'The Crossing', which formed part of the Light Night Leeds event in October 2010
Part installation, part performance journey, 'The Crossing' was a sensory world of stories from the 4 corners of the earth; gnomes emerging from trees, stars rising into the night sky and snow falling from the heights. We caught the boat and discovered how people from different parts of the world dream the same story of re-awakening.
Arakan commissioned writer Azma Dar to write a short performance piece about the 10th century scientist 'Al-Haytham', known in the West as 'Al Hazen'. He was born in Basra, Iraq and went onto study astronomy, mathematics, physics and medicine - but he would be best known for his optical achievements, where he devised the world's first camera obscura.
'The Crossing' took place on the evenings of October 8th and 9th in Leeds and was a huge success. For more details log onto:
